News from the Scottish American Center:

The Scottish American Center (SAC) has been very active over the last month!
In addition to our usual weekly hours open to the public, we were present and promoting our community and its resources at Rennfest, at a new Scottish festival in Hudson, WI, and a new Celtic Fair in Aberdeen, SD. In Hudson, we were the only connection outreach representative of our community. Exactly our mission!
The SAC continues to open doors for people to pursue their Scottish interest and heritage, and aggressively promotes the organizations of our Scottish-American community. Kudos also to Clann Tartan and St. Croix Weavers for making Hudson's event more diversified and authentic.
Also Our library continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
Over the last few months, our collection has really grown! If you have not looked through our large collection of items to read or watch lately, you should. We are actually running out of shelf space for all of it. Nice problem to have, eh? Keep stuff coming, everybody, we'll make more shelves!
Three additional and very important news bits:
1. It is time for the SAC to seek support again. Can you believe it's been almost a year and a half since we last had a fund drive?
Please consider giving $25 or more to support this valuable community resource into the future. If only 100 of you gave just $25, the SAC would be covered for basic operations until 2010! That's a lot of bang for the buck, and less than many organizations' annual dues.Don't be one of the ones that just stands by without supporting the future of our community...
Please send donations to the St. Andrew's Society for tax deductibility – Make checks payable "St. Andrew's Society of MN", and put "SAC donation" in the memo line.
Thank you!

2. The SAC has a NEW AND URGENT NEED for people to help run operations and provide leadership. Due to adverse health events and related increases in "outside" scheduling demands, a couple of our big players have had to greatly reduce their roles in SAC operations. In order to avoid stalling the progress of the SAC, it is critically necessary to start team-building our leadership.
Email
info@ScottishAmericanCenter.org or call the SAC at 651-636-1558 to talk to Executive Director Scott McKechnie or Human Resources Director Tom King to pursue this exciting new opportunity to get involved in developing the SAC into the vision we all have for it.
You know that this is really a pivotal moment in our community history, so don't miss out on the opportunity to create a future institution that Scottish-Americans, Minnesota, and the Midwest can be proud of!
3. The Scottish American Center (SAC) continues to seek volunteers for its shifts on
Weds 6-8PM, Thurs 6-8PM, and Sat's noon-3PM. We don't want to work our volunteers too often, so please be a part of this effort to keep consistent hours available to the public. It does not take much commitment to help out- even one shift of only 2 or 3 hours per month or even every other month helps a lot. It's a nice place to spend a few hours anyway... lots to read, watch, or listen to... and it's a great opportunity to build your Scottish expertise!
