We have just recently moved to a new hosting service, and will be redesigning the site over the coming weeks. Additionally, the Scottish News In Minnesota (SNIM) is going to be using a new mailing list server. Because of changes in laws and hosting company regulations for sending mass mailings, all previous subscribers will need to confirm their subscription to the SNIM Please be assured that we respect the privacy of all subscribers to the SNIM, and your email address is never sold, traded, or otherwise given out.
All previous subscribers have received an email asking them to confirm they wish to continue receiving the SNIM. There was a link in that email you can click on to confirm your subscription, or you can just complete the form on the subscribe page. If you are new to the SNIM, you can also use that page to subscribe. If you want to change the address you are currently receiving the SNIM at, use this form to Unsubscribe your old address, then subscribe using the new one.
One of the new features, actually a return of an old feature, is the discussion forums, where you can post your own info on upcoming events as well as join other discussions of interest to Scots in Minnesota.
Now in its 8th year of publication, the Scottish News In Minnesota (SNIM) began as an email reminder/update to members of the Scottish community in Minnesota and the borders of Wisconsin, about plans and arrangements for Tartan Day. Like Topsy, it just grew until at the present time we have nearly 1,000 subscribers, which includes members of most of our Scottish organizations who receive their issues either directly or forwarded from their organization.
Each month two dozen contact people are asked to submit their news to be included in the coming month's publication. News includes everything from events, births, deaths (Flowers of the Forest), promotions, et cetera. Everything and anything that is deemed of interest to our community can be found in the pages of the SNIM. What started as a two or three page reminder has grown to a document nearing 20 pages that our community has come to depend on for "the news". The current issue is uploaded to the Tartan Day web site soon after publication where it is available to any and all who wish to know what is going on here in the Scottish/Celtic community of Minnesota.
Barbara Humphrey, who originated the SNIM, has continued as editor/compiler since the beginning. She was granted one brief hiatus some years ago when Liz Michaelson and Peggy Lushine took over for a few months to afford her a break.
If you have coming events, news, or announcements you would like included in future issues, please send the information to: babsfaythATaolDOTcom and we will do our best to publish in the next issue. Our deadline for the first of the month issue is the 27th of the previous month. Occasionally we publish ahead of the first of the month to reinforce events happening early in the month. Please let us know if you would like to be included in the reminder email that we send on the 20th of each the month.
Scottish News in Minnesota (SNIM) is a publication of the Minnesota Tartan Day Cooperative and publishes 12 times a year, along with occasional special editions. It is intended solely for the information, interest, and enjoyment of members of the Scottish community of Minnesota and the border Scots of Wisconsin as well as others of our Celtic friends.
